Linear Mold & Engineering was founded in 2003 at the onset of the 3D printing revolution and was quick to embrace this new technology. Unlike conventional tooling and parts manufacturing, there were no standards, no guidelines, no processes to follow. Linear’s talented team of engineers began experimenting with this ground-breaking technology, now called Metal Additive Manufacturing (AM). By pushing the limits to develop new uses, testing new materials, and creating new production processes for their customers, Linear helped establish an emerging market for delivering precision tooling, molding and industrial parts.

In 2015, global engineering industry leader Moog, Inc. purchased controlling interest in Linear, rebranding the company to Linear AMS highlighting their additive manufacturing solutions capabilities, but maintaining operations as a separate company. From the beginning their aim was to invest in Linear as an external, customer-facing growth strategy, not as an internal supply-chain component. Adding Linear to the Moog team allowed Moog to more quickly move their R&D prototyping lab into a production environment.
Our partnership is creating a whole new infrastructure of what it means to engineer and supply precision components. Moog also brings its established systems in supply chain fulfi llment and distribution, along with helping to develop lean manufacturing protocols for AM production.
Backed by the strength of multi-billion-dollar engineering leader Moog, the AM experts at Linear AMS are setting standards, verifying test profi les, improving material handing for metal powders, and developing new systems and procedures for environmental health and safety— all aimed at making metal AM reliable, repeatable and verifiable throughout the production process for the benefit of Linear AMS’ customers.
